To the Iranians, the assassination of Soleimani was akin to the assassination of JFK in America in 1963. Although each had some opposition within, they were beloved and both nations were both shocked and grieving intensely. Imagine America's response in '63 if it was discovered that the USSR had assassinated JFK!
Iran has now attacked to two Iraqi military bases hosting Americans. The U.S. is huddling to determine their response. Expecting anything approaching intelligence or wisdom from Trump and his war-hawks close to him is just beyond my ability to credibly imagine.
It would be good to remember that Iran lost about half a MILLION men in their war with Iran in the '80s. They sent thousands of boys across mine fields to their deaths as a way to clear out the mines. Expecting restraint from Iran is also beyond my ability to credibly imagine.
Why did previous administrations stay away from going to war with Iran? The straits of Hormuz. It is too easy for Iran to block it and stop oil coming out of the gulf.
This is not going well.
